This is the second in an unlimited photo series of animals relaxing
around our house. (The carpenter's dog Iggy asleep on our couch was
the first.) What is this squirrel thinking, that it's part cat or
something?
Speaking of cats, there is a cat who likes to sleep on our table in
the back yard. I'll try to get a picture for the series :)
One interesting thing I saw at UIUC was the Morrow Plot. This plot of
corn has been continuously studied for over 100 years, and is right on
campus. A few years ago when they wanted to build a new undergraduate
library next door to the plot, they couldn't because the building
would cast a shadow over the corn. So they built the entire library
UNDERGROUND! So now it's the underground undergraduate library!
This photo was taken by Dad in the mid-1970s on Dauphin Island,
Alabama. We went to the Gulf of Mexico every summer I can remember,
except for the summer we went to South Dakota. Based on Mom's comments
on her blog, I think that in this photo I was about to turn and run
into the water, and Debbie was looking at her feet thinking she'd like
to dig in the sand.
Mom posted this in May but I've been behind on blog reading, and
anyway thought it was worth re-posting today, since the cap on the oil
leak has been holding for about a day now. Yay! Fingers crossed it
continues to hold.
Putting live plants in the window box under the tree didn't work out so well seeing as there is no light or water under there and I'm not great at maintaining that kind of neediness. So for our little party Saturday night I bought a bouquet of flowers and put them in "vases" in there. I think Martha Stewart would like this.

yay, tomatoes are growing!
The healthy stuff growing in the front is cilantro and parsley. There are tomato plants, chili pepper plants and some basil seedlings in here too.
Side view of the jungle like south side. One of our guests said the garden was like a walled cottage garden and I said "yes! that's what I'm going for!"
Another view of the jungle side.

It's just really cool!

We had a picnic lunch on the grounds of Cahir Castle on the way to Cork
Then went for a post-lunch tour of the castle.
You can climb on the walls
and see great views of the town
Cool portcullis!
same portcullis, different photographer
Check out the blue sky!!!
Then we went along to Cork and stopped to visit Nan, Veronica, Patrick and Katie, then went to Anne and Brian's house. Paddy, Nan and Kathleen are here at Anne and Brian's house

Al fresco dining in Cork. Yum! We had fish and ostrich steaks!
Not a great photo but the view is fantastic. Anne and Brian's sitting room windows frame the surrounding countryside just beautifully. I would say it's totally a contender for Grand Design (home design TV show).
